1935: Canadians angry with the government over the economy (PM. Bennett) The Depression was dragging Conditions not getting any better The next election was coming up so Bennett came up with some radical reforms.

Bennett wanted to establish: Unemployment Social Insurance Set minimum wages Limit hours of work Guarantee the fair treatment of employees Control prices so that business could not make unfair profit

U.S.A President Roosevelt made a similar program. (This is where he got the idea!) People were startled by the new deal Just a plot to get more votes Bennett lost the election and Mackenzie King became Prime Minister once again

People were fed up and frustrated with lack of leadership. Protests began to happen all over the country They wanted dramatic action to deal with the problems of the Depression New Political Parties and leaders began to form to take on the challenge.
