1 Vocabulary Observation: Using the five senses of sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch to learn or collect information about an object. Observations are based on fact. Inferring – Making judgments or interpreting events based on observations. An educated guess based on the observations you have made, and re-occurring patterns.

2 Qualitative Observation: Characteristics you can observe about an object using your five senses. Think quality: what qualities does it have? Color, shape, texture. Quantitative Observation: Characteristics of an object made through measurements. (How many, length, height, width, mass, etc) Think Quantity = how much, numbers.
