2. Logrolling/Reciprocity Logrolling is a term used in Congress when two congressmen agree that if one person votes for a bill, the other will vote for a different bill that the first is more personally invested in. So basically, it’s an exchange of support.

3. Incumbency An incumbent is an office holder making incumbency the state of being an office holder. The benefits of incumbency come up most during elections when a new candidate is put against an incumbent. –It’s can be an advantage because people will assume the incumbent is more experienced. –It can be bad if the current term is going poorly. Because of the hard year economically, democratic incumbents were worried over the latest election.

4. Bureaucratic Agencies and Oversight A bureaucratic agency is a government program set up to protect or keep order of a group with specified interests. Bureaucratic oversight is when congressmen- or elected leaders- watch over the bureaucracies to keep them in check. –Bureaucrats aren’t elected into office so they don’t directly answer to the people.

5. Judicial Activism vs. Judicial Restraint Judicial Activism is the more liberal view on the Judicial branch. That means that the rulings on cases don’t come directly from the Constitution but from previous cases from the courts. Judicial Restraint is different because it is more supported by concrete constitutionalists. Judicial Restraint is the idea that the Supreme Court should only make decisions based on the ideals of the constitution. The best governing judicial body comes into play when there is a balance between the Judicial activism and restraint.
