JOB DESCRIPTIONS TUESDAY 26 TH MARCH To be able to explain the purpose and contents of a job description

Starter What might a job description be? A job description is a document that is given to employees that provides details about the sorts of jobs that they are expected to do

Contents What sort of information might be included in a job description? Salary? Temporary or permanent contract? Start date?

Why do you think this? Now look at the job descriptions you’ve been given. Rank them from strongest to weakest. You should be able to give reasons for your decisions.

Why do we create job descriptions? To inform potential applicants for a job about the sorts of tasks they would be expected to do. To give employees an overview of what their day to day tasks would include and what is expected of them. Sometimes job descriptions can be altered and so tasks can be added or removed. New job descriptions would need to be issued. To protect the employees from their employers. If a manager asks a member of staff to do a job that’s not in their job description, the member of staff can refuse to do it.
