Wednesday, November 10 Objective: Students will identify solutions of inequalities and write inequalities. Today’s Agenda: 1.Practice 3-3 is due 2.Fill in planner with today’s assignment (Practice 3-4) 3.Bell work Solve each equation, if possible. If the equation is an identity or has no solution, write identity or no solution.
2
Today’s Objective(s) SWBAT –Solve multi-step inequalities with variables on one or both sides.
3
Steps for Solving Multi-Step Inequalities First, use the distributive property to eliminate any grouping symbols.
4
Steps for Solving Multi-Step Inequalities Second, combine like terms to get your variable on one side of the inequality symbol and combine all constants.
5
Steps for Solving Multi-Step Inequalities Third, undo any constant that is being added or subtracted to or from the variable.
6
Steps for Solving Multi-Step Inequalities Finally, eliminate any coefficient from your variable to isolate the variable on one side of the inequality
7
Example A 763542 8 No grouping symbols, move on to step 2 No like terms, move on to step 3 Undo addition by subtracting 7 from both sides. Then go to step 4 Undo multiplication by dividing both sides by 6. Then graph your solution.
8
Example B 76 3 54 2 8 Use the distributive property, move on to step 2 Combine like terms, move on to step 3 Undo addition by subtracting 4 from both sides. Then go to step 4 Divide both sides by -1. which reverses the inequality symbol Then graph your solution.
9
Example C 14 11 1312 10 15 No grouping symbols, move on to step 2 Combine like terms to get the variable on one side. Then move on to step 3 Undo subtraction by adding 15 to both sides. Then move on to step 4 Divide both sides by 2. Then graph your solution.

Example D: Write and solve an inequality. Jackie is a sales associate in a clothing store. Each week she earns $250 plus a commission equal to 3% of her sales. This week she wants to earn no less than $460. How much clothing does she need to sell? Jackie must sell at least $7000 worth of clothing in order to earn at least $460.
