Notes: Literary Response Strategy Steps to Follow
1. Read the questions first and highlight key terms When given a specific sentence or passage, go back to the reading and mark it, look there for context clues. 2. List literary devices to pay attention to or look for as you read. 3. Identify the definition of literary devices listed before trying to identify them. 4. Highlight and annotate as you read.

Notes: Literary Response Tips KNOW YOUR LITERARY TERMS!!!
Know the characteristics of different literary genres fiction, nonfiction, drama, biography, autobiography, etc. With Drama, pay attention to stage directions and bracketed notes Pay close attention to DICTION (author’s word choice) when identifying an author’s opinion or style. Know the difference between PLOT and THEME! Use summarization to help you identify theme Use a plot line to help identify events Pay attention to CHARACTERIZATION what does the character say, do, think, etc. Pay attention to point of view: 1st person = (I, me, my) 2nd person = (you, your) 3rd person = (he/she, her/him, them, they)
