SECTION ONE: Short Answer Define and explain the importance of historians using primary source evidence. Explain the charter of the HBC. and the importance of it. Explain how Samuel de Champlain was worthy of the title “Father of New France”.

SECTION TWO: Short Answer Define and explain the importance of taking a historical perspective when studying events in history. Explain how the War of 1812 was a success for the United States. Explain some of the terms of the Manitoba Act and how they still affect our daily lives.

SECTION THREE: Short Answer Define and explain the purpose of studying cause and consequence when studying events in history. In what ways was the Winnipeg General Strike historically significant? List at least 3 major changes to Canadian Government Policy and Practice as a result of the Great Depression.

SECTION FOUR: Short Answer Define and explain why historians identify continuity and change when studying events in history. Explain the usage of the “Notwithstanding Clause”. Describe either the Work Camps created by the government during the Great Depression OR the On-To- Ottawa Trek.

PART FOUR: LONG ANSWER (A) Describe the voyages, accomplishments and failures of Jacques Cartier. Define each of the three “ism’s” that caused WW1 and explain how they contributed to the start of the war. Describe the farming style and level of success of the Acadians. Be sure to give specifics! List and describe each of the components of the traditional aboriginal worldview. Outline the main hierarchy of the government of New France (three levels) and describe their main responsibilities.

PART FOUR: LONG ANSWER (B) Explain with specific examples how Jean Talon became worthy of the title “The Great Intendant”. Analyze the final battle between Wolfe and Montcalm, including specific details from each side of the battle and the final result(s). Describe the new style of warfare used by the Germans in WW2 and explain why it was so effective in most areas (and where and why it was not effective). Discuss the importance of the Avro Arrow and the issues surrounding its development/demolition. Explain with specific details how terrorism has had an effect on Canada.

LOCATION AND TIME OF EXAM Final history exams in Canadian History will be written from 9-12 on February 4. They will take place in Rooms 3. The exam is valued at 30% of the total course mark. Academic dishonesty on any part of the exam will result in an exam mark of 0.
