1
Problem 3 ME 115 Final – Troy Topping
2
Initial Construction A box with m = 1250 kg is input to simulate the forklift Only half the mass is used since this is a 2-d model and there are really 4 wheels Gravity is not turned off because we want to use mass
3
Model Assembled Wheels are put on the model with a radius of.1 meter Ground is put in and dimensional alignments are made
4
More Parts and Crate The rest of the forklift is simulated The center of gravity of the crate is properly oriented
5
Giving the Forklift Initial Velocity An initial velocity is given to the forklift This was unspecified in the problem – in the model –5 m/s is used
6
Metering Forces Force meters are put in for the wheels A decelerating motor is put on each wheel Since the linear deceleration was 3m/s^2, and the radius was.1 meters, an angular deceleration of –4.77 rev/s^2 was used
7
Final Model Running Here is the model running (not too well) At this point the reactions in the y-direction are small
8
Results I needed more time to generate a more accurate model The reactions determined in the system don’t seem reliable yet With fine tuning, this model might work better
