K-12 Update u Internet Access: – 89% of buildings, direct connection – 63% of classrooms are connected (with at least one computer) – 109,070 Internet connected computers in the classroom u 6.6:1 students to Internet connected computer u DESE Funding for Technology – $12M DESE Entitlement grants/$4.8M district match – $10M DESE Competitive grants u District MOREnet Participation Fees – $1,500-6,000 based on # of FTE certificated staff (discounted 50% as a result of MOREnet E-rate reimbursements) Source: 1999 Missouri School District Computing Census/OSEDA

Leveraging the Investment for K-12 u Shared Electronic Resources –Online periodicals, newspapers, etc. –$1.3M state funds leveraged 10:1 - access by all u E-rate (Universal Service Fund) –Statewide training & consulting - $20M in annual discounts to schools/libraries –MOREnet achieves $7.5M in discounts annually t Reinvested in high technology classrooms & libraries –District MOREnet Participation Fees discounted 50%
