2. Target Audience This Language Arts Distance Learning Lesson was designed for 11 year old students just beginning sixth grade. They have a very basic understanding of computers and their applications. They know: how to log on how to use a mouse and keyboard how to input a URL in the address box how to correctly close a file How to log off & and shut down a computer.

Introduction for the Student Your assignment is to think, really think… As a responsible member of the voting public it is your job to be able to listen, read, analyze, and decipher the information, real and perceived, that is all around you! The following activities will guide you in this endeavor.

7. Concept Attainment will be used as a Motivating Activity First we set the stage for our learning. Visit Stage 1 on our wiki and scroll through the PowerPoint called…Concept Attainment Remember to carefully consider the words on the slides and the questions that are asked of you.

8. Process Each student will follow these steps: 1.Visit the wikispace or website housing this distance learning lesson. (For a potential delivery option visit: http://cokersfocus.wikispaces.com/Distanc e+Learning) 2.Follow the directions posted on the web page which will direct the learner to complete a series of activities, both interactive and independent.

9. Task Overview Students will complete the following activities in the given sequence: Concept Attainment / Motivator Tutorial Choice of Interactive Exercises Quiz Create 10 statements (5 factual and 5 opinions-related to most recent piece of literature) and submit to instructor via email or find multi-media examples. Write a Reflection with a focus on common misconceptions & newfound knowledge and submit via email.

One from each set will be added to a cumulative list on the class website. Students write a reflective piece with a focus on common misconceptions & newfound knowledge.
