1 Alan James, Branch Secretary

2 Kim Ryley implemented changes to our terms & conditions He stated that by doing so would: 1.Bring about £7m of savings 2.Prevent making at least 400 Members of staff redundant 3.That the 5.4% pay cut was intended as a short term measure. Back in 2011 On the basis of the above SC voted to introduce the cut to staff pay and break away from NJC terms & conditions.

3 They said: ‘This pay reduction…....is intended as a time limited measure, to allow us time to make different long term, structural changes to our workforce..’ What has happened in reality: Shropshire Council employees’ salaries are still 5.4% below the NJC agreement and as such we are the worst paid local government staff in England. They said: ‘ We believe that at least 400 members of staff would lose their jobs this way (compulsory redundancies) later this year, with immediate detrimental effects on our ability to maintain the current scale and scope of frontline service for local people.’ What has happened in reality: To date there have been approximately 900 redundancies across the Council and we are now seeing the removal of frontline services to the most vulnerable and needy of our communities. 2015

4 Has successfully recovered some of the detrimental effects as a result of the 2011 changes to terms & conditions: Addressed cuts to sick pay by bringing about the reinstatement of full occupational pay for the first 3 days off sick Secured improvements to proposed new sickness policy which has made progress in our aim to reinstate some of the lost NJC terms & conditions Mitigated some of the 5.4% loss by pressuring to bring forward a pay rise in 2012. Secured extra days off for all staff over Xmas period Shropshire Unison General Branch
