4. BES Vision & Mission Focus: Bioprospecting and Wildlife Sectors Vision: Optimised economic benefits from the sustainable use of South Africa’s biodiversity. Mission: is to enhance and create new and inclusive opportunities for economic growth through biodiversity based initiatives. Scope: Has the scope of Leadership, Coordination and Transformation of the Bioprospecting and Wildlife industries.

6. BES Goal By 2030, the South Africa’s biodiversity economy will achieve an inclusive average annualised GDP growth rate of 10% per annum. Goal Focus: 18 Biodiversity Economy transformation nodes (rural and urban)

7. Bioprospecting Industry Targets Bioprospecting Sector Expansion: Grow cultivation of bioprospecting ingredients by at least 500 hectare per annum. At least triple the number of RSA products in domestic & international markets. Jobs: 30-50% of RSA bioprospecting products must have community involvement in the supply chain. Equity: R500 mil: R250 mil product development and sales from SMME and R250 mil on fixed assets and infrastructure resulting in improved income, skills development, institutional capacity building, entrepreneurship and food and environmental security. Sustainable Use: Establish a National Repository of natural product compounds, Biodiversity Market Bank.

8. Wildlife Industry Targets Wildlife sector expansion: 2 million ha of communal land restored and developed for conservation and commercial game ranching. Jobs: 60,000 beneficiaries and new sustainable jobs created across value chain. Equity: R7 billion: R4 billion in game and R3 billion on fixed assets and infrastructure resulting in improved rural income, skills development, institutional capacity building, entrepreneurship and food and environmental security. Conservation and Game Improvement: 300 000 heads of wildlife under black empowered and owned ranches.

Wildlife Economy Projects DEA has identified 107 wildlife economy projects with a transformation potential in all provinces, including around the Kruger National Park.107 wildlife economy projects These projects funded by DEA, Environmental Programmes Branch, and are at the project commencement phase. The DEA conducts wildlife forum meetings (private-public) quarterly, 2 have been completed for the 2015-2016 financial year.
