DIOCLETIAN Roman emperor who restored efficient government. reorganization of the fiscal (money), administrative, and military machinery of the empire by dividing it into an eastern and a western section laid the foundation for the Byzantine Empire in the East and temporarily shored up the decaying empire in the West.

CONSTANTINE I Constantine I the Great legalized Christianity with his Edict of Milan which promoted religious tolerance. building and making Constantinople the new center of Roman power. Constantine became a Christian after the Battle of the Milvian Bridge Reports state that Constantine had a vision of the Christian God promising victory if they placed the sign of the cross on their shields

THEODOSIUS I Theodosius the Great, was the last emperor to rule over both the eastern and the western halves of the Roman Empire from 379 to 395. He also issued decrees that made Christianity the official state church of the Roman Empire in 393 AD.
