2
Zimbabwe is a landlocked country in the southern part of Africa Zimbabwe is bordered by South Africa to the south, Botswana southwest, Zambia northwest, and Mozambique to the east Capital city is Harare
5
Surrounded by big mountains – Chirasauta mountain, Dembwa and Chivenga mountains and the Mhari mountain The Chirasauta community is located approximately 300km from Harare Southeastern part of Zimbabwe in the Mashonaland East province of the Chikomba district
6
Nearest secondary schools used to be 20km to 30km away from the community and there was limited transportation so children had to walk to school Nearest clinics are located 27km and 37 km respectively, the nearest hospital being 50km away from the community
7
CMDCI is working closely with the Chirasauta community to establish a clinic and school in the area However, both the clinic and school need access to water supply for everyday life
10
The Chirasauta community is a semi- arid place where the rainy season only lasts for 3 months out of the entire year Daily minimum temperatures in Zimbabwe have increased by up to 3’C in the last 100 years, the greatest leap being in the 1970s and has resulted in a climate shift in the agro-ecological regions such as Chirasauta Higher temperatures are projected to shorten the rainy season from anywhere to 2 days to 35 days which evidently reduces water supply and availability
28
The next phase is to procure storage water tanks and pipes to transport the water. Storage tanks will be located in areas that are accessible and meet the needs of community
29
The first water storage tank will be constructed close to the well. This tank will supply water to the other two tanks. The second one will be installed at the clinic The third water storage tank will be installed at the school respectively There is a need for pipes to transport water from all three tanks to different outlets plus a generator to provide electricity for the pumps
31
This project will be implemented by the Canadian Multicultural Disability Centre (INC) and its partners in Zimbabwe
