Jozsef Kovacs, Hungary 1942 Jozsef Kovacs Was a lieutenant who commanded a Jewish slave labor company Was humane and non-abusive to the 150 Jews In 1942 Entire Jewish Battalion ordered to Russian front Meant certain death Jozsef persuaded his superiors Not to put them on the Russian front Saved many lives Jozsef was sent to the Russian front for being a “Jew-lover” Survived wounds Trait Compassion Jozsef felt bad for the Jews Treated them decently Saved lives He alleviated their suffering By smuggling in care packages Sent from families He showed compassion by seeing that the Jews did nothing wrong and pitied them, he knew he had to do something so he was good to them and saved their lives

Antanas Andraitis, Lithuania 1942 Antanas Andraitis saved an acquaintance from before the war Dr. Gootman Escaped from Kovno Ghetto in !942 Someone told the police about Antanas and the man he was hiding Was able to find another place for Dr. Gootman Trait Compassion Antanas sympathized with Dr. Gootman Took him into hiding When he was warned that the Germans were coming Didn’t panic Found another place for Dr. Gootman Antanas showed compassion because he remembered his old acquaintance and felt bad for him, He knew he had to do something, so he hid Dr. Gootman

Vasilyi Safonov, Soviet Union 1941 Vasilyi Safonov was a living in Novozybkov, Soviet Union when the Germans occupied it They were going to execute all the Jews Vasilyi’s family decided to do something Hid 9 Jews in a shed Cared for and fed the Jews Vayisili and hi sister Made contact with partisans Led everyone to the partisans Their parents were betrayed and killed Trait Courage The Safonovs Hid Jews Very dangerous Brought the Jews to the partisans. The Safonovs showed courage by taking nine Jews in their shed, and took them to the partisans, through the forest, Which was extremely dangerous.
