Context Solar Energetic Particle Environment Modelling (SEPEM): ESA contract to establish reference proton dataset and event list, and build a database and web server for statistical modelling (http://dev.sepem.oma.be) New activity—Energetic Solar Heavy-Ion Environment Models (ESHIEM, ESA Contract 4000107025) to: Construct a long-term He dataset to complement the SEPEM H dataset; required energy range: 5–200 (300) MeV/nuc Establish new heavy ion abundance tables Combine both into a virtual ion dataset Update the SEPEM radiation effects tools (TID, SEU) Implement geomagnetic shielding 27/11/2015 ESWW12, Oostende, Belgiium 2

GOES/SEM He datasets GOES 5, 7, 8, 11, 13 ASCII data files from ftp://satdat.ngdc.noaa.gov/sem/goes/data/avg/ : 1986– present ftp://satdat.ngdc.noaa.gov/sem/goes/data/avg/ Complemented with SMS 1,2 and GOES 1, 2, 5 binary FITS files from ftp://satdat.ngdc.noaa.gov/sem/goes/data/full/ from 1974 onwardftp://satdat.ngdc.noaa.gov/sem/goes/data/full/ Read and re-bin telemetry data Output in same format as 5 min ASCII files One additional solar cycle of H, He, X-ray and magnetic field data All data are stored in SEPEM MySQL database for further processing 27/11/2015 3 ESWW12, Oostende, Belgiium

GOES/SEM He data processing Manual removal of data spikes Gap filling SEPEM on-line tools were used (available to all registered SEPEM users) 27/11/2015 ESWW12, Oostende, Belgiium 4

Cross-calibration / background Cross-calibration with IMP8/GME He data using SEPCALIB: re-define GOES energy bins, no scaling of fluxes Re-bin the individual datasets to a common set of energy bins Combine the final individual datasets in a continuous time series 27/11/2015 5 GOES 8,11 total average flux before and after SEPCALIB Background subtraction Use the H event list to define active and quiet periods 3-day average flux before and after active periods defines background level per channel Subtract background level for all data points (daily average after background removal, events not shown) ESWW12, Oostende, Belgiium
