Sections 2-6 and 2-8 (We combined two because we are that cool!) There will be a quiz on both of these Wednesday!
2
Get a calculator and try these 5 55 -5-5 5-5 -5 6 3 6 -3-6 3-6 -3 12 ÷ 312 ÷ -3-12 ÷ 3-12 ÷ -3 24 ÷ 8-24 ÷ 824 ÷ -8-24 ÷ -8 Do you see a pattern or rule?
3
Rule for multiplying or dividing integers (two numbers at a time) If you are multiplying or dividing numbers with the same sign (pos and pos or neg and neg) then the answer will result in a positive value Example: -3 -7 = 21 or -35 ÷ -7 = 5 If you are multiplying or dividing numbers with different signs (pos and neg or neg and pos) then the answer will result in a negative value Example: 5 -3 = -15 or -21 ÷ 7 = -3
4
What about three or more numbers? -3 (5) (-4) what do we do now? Just multiply the numbers two at a time -3 (5) (-4) multiply -3 and 5 first -3 (5) = -15 -15 (-4) = 60 Try these 1. -4 (8) (-2)2. 6 (-3) (5)3. -7 (-14) (0) 64 -900 Flip your handout over and do those 8 problems!
