Dividing Integers DART statement: I can divide integers.
2
Review from yesterday: What are the rules for multiplying integers? ◦ Positive x Positive = ____________ ◦ Negative x Negative = _____________ ◦ Positive x Negative = _____________ -6(3) =____ -5(-8) = ____ 9(4)=____
3
Dividing Integers The rules are the same for dividing integers! Dividing Integers with Different Signs The quotient (answer to a division problem) of two integers will be negative if the integers have different signs. Ex. 33÷(-11) = -3 -64 ÷ 8 = -8
4
Dividing Integers with the Same Sign The quotient of two integers with the same sign is positive. Ex. 15 ÷ 3 = 5 -64 ÷ (-8) = 8
5
Look at the following division problems. Will the quotient be positive or negative? (Hold up your index card.) 1. -8÷2 2. 24÷4 3. 68÷(-2) 4. -45÷(-5) 5. -100÷10
6
Try these on your own. 1. -36 ÷ 6 = _____ 2. 48 ÷ (-4) = _____ 3. -26 = 13 _____ 4. -21 = -7 _____
