Overall Idea of the Persian Wars Who: Persia versus Greece Where: Marathon, Thermopylae, Salamis When: 499-480BC Why: The Persian tried to conquer Greek cities and they rebelled, defending their homeland. What: They fight a series of 4 wars. The Persians are defeated and humiliated. The Greeks were successful and the Greek’s spirit triumphed, especially Athens. Though allies during the war, the great Greek states of Sparta and Athens will become enemies after the Persian Wars.
