2016 Preparing for and change Preparing for and change… Julia Hobsbawn (2015) argues that knowledge networking capacity is the key to successful leadership for an institution concerned with reputation building. Networking… Good networks are built over time and with consistent effort. They are not necessarily reciprocal or symmetrical. Networks internal to NWU Networks external to NWU No knowledge network = isolation and uninformed decision making. The new leadership ‘speak’ is about developing resilience and agility. Networks enable both.

2016 Preparing for and change Preparing for and change… Resilience is the ability to withstand the damaging impact of change and to identify those aspects from which you and the organization can benefit. Agility is the capacity to utilize networks to anticipate change. Anticipating change means identifying potential negative and positive impact, and in leadership, to plan for the minimization of negative consequences by enhancing positive impact. Networking…

Preparing for and change Preparing for and change… The new BEd ODL launched this year – it is unique to the NWU! Inaugural and lectures for our research chair professors, Prof Bantwini and Prof Cromarty. The post-grad bursary presentations take place on 30 March 2016. The Dean's forum in October will focus on Early Childhood Education - "Teaching and learning mathematics, sciences, design and technology in the Early Years (0-10 years)" - with guests from France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Highlights in 2016… In 2015 our Faculty had the pleasure of welcoming over 28 international guests on campus, besides the ALARA conference attendees which pushed the number to well over a 100! 26 countries and all the continents were represented in this group.

Preparing for and change Preparing for and change… Highlights in 2016… This year we will be moving towards integration and unity and four joint executive meetings for Education across our three campuses will be held. The Partnerships for Hope initiative with the DoE KKD will be evaluated this year. The Research Turn Around Strategy initiative will be evaluated this year.

Comparison student enrollments – 2013 / 2014 / 2015 The student numbers in the system will be filtered by end of April to extract inactive students The official student numbers for every programme is sent from Management information to HEMIS during May. Important: At the start of 2015 10 000 inactive students were removed from the system, where the number is usually around 7000. The subsidy and class fee calculations of the campus is based on the number of 32,772 for 2015.
