2 EARLY COLLEGE ACCESS DEFINITIONS - Early College Access Program allows high school students to simultaneously enroll at Magruder High School and Montgomery College(MC). - Concurrent Enrollment—High school student who is enrolled in both high school and Montgomery College, but does not receive high school credit for the college courses completed. The college courses appear on the MC transcript. - DEPA – Dual Enrollment Program Assistant…The contact person at Magruder High School = Mr. Robert Bean..robert_a_bean@mcpsmd.org

3 EARLY COLLEGE ACCESS REQUIREMENTS  Must be at least 16 years  Grade Point Average Juniors 3.0 Seniors 2.75  Must meet course assessment levels  SAT = 550 Math and Reading  ACT = 24  AP = 3 or above in Language, Calc  ACCUPLACER

4 BENEFITS OF EARLY COLLEGE ACCESS  Increase rigor and foundational knowledge while in high school  Earn transferable college credit  Enhance your resume to college/job placement  Save money!

5 COLLEGE CLASS LOCATIONS  At the high school  Class taught by a college professor in a classroom at Magruder  Classes meet 2 or 3 times/week  Class size must meet minimum requirements (15 + students)  Creative scheduling is required  At MC campus  Student responsible for transportation  Creative scheduling may be required

6 CLASS OFFERINGS FOR FALL OF 2012 BA 101 = Intro to Business An introductory course designed to survey the field of business and its environment in order to give the student a broad overview of the principles, practices, institutions, and functions of business. SP 101 – Intro to Human Communications A survey course that covers communication theory and develops communication skills for personal and professional relationships in interpersonal, group, and public settings. Course content includes practice in the application of the principles of listening, verbal and nonverbal communication, group dynamics, and public speaking.

7 MONEY MATTERS  Tuition and Fees – FY 2011 3 credits $427.20 4 credits $569.60  Family is responsible for tuition, fee, and textbook expense  High School Grant available for families with demonstrated financial need (first come basis)  TIPS (Tuition installment plan) available - access through MY MC
