2 Core Competency 1 Identify as a professional social worker and conduct oneself accordingly.

3 Practice Behavior 1.1 Advocate for client access to the services of social work. As a school social worker, I can connect with the school, community and families to help the student achieve academic success.

4 Practice Behavior 1.2 Practice personal reflection and self-correction to assure continual professional development. As a school social worker, I can renew my professional development through technology workshops and receive certification of completion credits thru the school board of education.

5 Practice Behavior 1.3 Attend to professional roles and boundaries. As a school social worker, I can help students by acting as a connection between the teacher, and parents or guardian. Realizing boundaries are in place for the confidentiality of the student and parents or guardian.

6 Practice Behavior 1.4 Demonstrate professional demeanor in behavior, appearance, and communication. As a school social worker, I can dress in a professional manner. My disclosure is clear and understanding to the student and family.

7 Practice Behavior 1.5 Engage in career-long learning. As a school social worker, having a passion for continuing education such as social work seminars and workshops.

8 Practice Behavior 1.6 Use supervision and consultation. As a school social worker, I can discuss my work with academic staff and to get their perspective and to learn from each other.

9 Core Competency 2 Apply social work ethical principals to guide professional practice.

10 Practice Behavior 2.1 Recognize and manage personal values in a way that allows professional values to guide practice. As a school social worker, I will be able to recognize what is important for me and my clients whether or not it is important to the clients.

11 Practice Behavior 2.2 Make ethical decisions by applying standards of the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics and, as applicable, of the International Federation of Social Workers/International Association of Schools of Social Work Ethics in Social Work, Statement of Principles. As a school social worker, I will abide by the rules of the code of ethics so the student can receive the academic education he or she needs.

12 Practice Behavior 2.3 Tolerate ambiguity in resolving ethical conflicts. As a school social worker, I must be aware of the ethical dilemmas that will arise and use impartial judgment with my students unless the student is in danger.

13 Practice Behavior 2.4 Apply strategies of ethical reasoning to arrive at principled decisions. As a school social worker, I will keep in mind the principles of right and wrong may vary from the students point of view. When visiting a home I realize that the families living arrangements will deviate and boundaries will be put in place for the best outcome of the student.
