Triangles By Mr. Bales

Objective By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify, describe, and classify triangles. Standard 4MG3.7 - Know the definitions of different triangles (equilateral, isosceles, scalene) and identify their attributes.

Introduce Using the triangles at your table, you will work with a partner. You and your partner need to label each angle of each triangle as acute, obtuse, or right. Then, use the ruler to measure and label the length of each side of each triangle. Please use centimeters. (Round to nearest centimeter)

Questions Are there any triangles whose sides are all the same length? Are there any triangles where exactly 2 sides are the same length? What do you notice about the sides of the 3 remaining triangles?

Equilateral Triangles An equilateral triangle is a triangle where all sides are the same length. 2 ft

Isosceles Triangles An isosceles triangle is a triangle that has two sides the same length. 2 ft 3 ft

Scalene Triangle A scalene triangle is a triangle that has no sides the same length. 4 ft 5 ft 2 ft

More Triangles Triangles can also be classified by the measure of their angles.

Right Triangle A right triangle has one right angle.

Acute Triangle An acute triangle has three angles that are less than 90°.

Obtuse Triangle An obtuse triangle has one obtuse angle.

Triangles Let’s hear from Mr. Hardesty about an ancient pyramid. Mrs. Verughese!! Robo Works!!
