Step by Step Distribute paint chips to students Explanation: Words and terms are used to describe ideas, concepts, and situations Model using temperature, light, volume, or sound Ask for examples Allow students to use their own terms on the paint chips Attach paint chips to notebook paper and have students develop sentences using their words Have students work in pairs to come up with other words for shades of meaning Put into interactive or writer’s notebook

Your turn! Eat the cookie Put a “neutral” word in the middle to describe the taste of the cookie Put words that are less or worse on the left and words that are more or better on the right Share with a shoulder partner
