3 Step by Step  Distribute paint chips to students  Explanation: Words and terms are used to describe ideas, concepts, and situations  Model using temperature, light, volume, or sound  Ask for examples  Allow students to use their own terms on the paint chips  Attach paint chips to notebook paper and have students develop sentences using their words  Have students work in pairs to come up with other words for shades of meaning  Put into interactive or writer’s notebook

4 Your turn!  Eat the cookie  Put a “neutral” word in the middle to describe the taste of the cookie  Put words that are less or worse on the left and words that are more or better on the right  Share with a shoulder partner
