2 Tuesday September 8- Learning Target- I can discuss mystery terms and use close reading skills Grammar Rule 4 – Subject verb agreement- the proper verb usage depends on whether the subject is plural or singular. Both of my dogs has food bowls. A. no change B. have C. has had D. having Explain Daily Agenda- opening activities, discuss mystery terms, solve some logic questions. Exit slip.

5 Mystery Solving Terms Alibi- a person or situation proving a suspect was unable to commit the crime. Deduction- the act of adding up information to form a logical hypothesis. Logic- using reasoning skills Evidence- proof Red Herrings- fake clues Suspect- person thought to have committed a crime. Witness- someone who saw the crime or has inside information

6 Types of Mystery Fiction/TV Police Procedural- Main characters are in law enforcement and have to follow law enforcement rules- getting a search warrant, etc. Private Investigators – are hired by people to solve crimes- they may not follow the law. Amateur detectives- get pulled in because of a connection to the crime, and must try to solve it.

7 Types Cont’d Cozy Mysteries- less action, usually revolves around logic rather than danger and action. Thriller/Suspense- may follow the character being chased rather than the one chasing. The stakes may be the character’s life, if they don’t get to the bottom of the mystery. Medical Mystery/Historical Mystery.

8 Unsolved Mysteries- grab our attention because we want to know what happened.

9 Legends Stories that have been passed down, typically over generations. Cryptozoology (study of mysterious creatures) falls in this category. Ghost stories and paranormal creatures fall into this category as well. Robin Hood and King Arthur- who were both based on real people fall into this category because the stories about them can’t all be real. (Probably).

10 Urban Legends a modern story of obscure origin and with little or no supporting evidence that spreads spontaneously in varying forms and often has elements of humor, moralizing, or horror. With the internet they spread quickly. Some, like alligators in the sewers have been around since before the advent of the internet…

11 Wednesday September 8 – Learning Target- I can read independently and make connections. ACT Bellringer- Allan and Jill enjoy music. A.No change B.Enjoys C.Has enjoyed Explain Agenda- go over independent reading project. Read independently. Reading Log. (due next week)

12 Thursday September 8- Learning Target- I can summarize and analyze stories ACT Bellringer Allan and Jill enjoy music. Allan also enjoy playing guitar. A. no change B. enjoys Daily Agenda- Read and analyze urban legends.

13 Friday September 11 Notebook entry- Topic of choice- OR reflect on the historical significance of this day. Bellringer- Don’t argue with me. She argues with everyone. a.No change b.Argue
