3 Exposition the start of the story; the way things are before the action starts

4 Inciting Incident the event that sets the story in motion

5 Rising Action series of incidents that build toward the greatest point of interest in the story

6 Climax the most intense, exciting, or important point of something

7 Falling Action occurs after the climax before the conclusion

8 Dénouement the resolution; what the characters are like at the end of the story; tying together all the threads at the end
