3 Interpreter/translator services Assess, assess and assess! Do not assume they do not speak English If Spanish is the primary language, will need an interpreter. Not use family as interpreter( Remember: confidentiality!) Attempt to ensure everyone in the room is authorized to listen in on the conversation.

5 Eye Contact and body language Sustained eye contact considered rude Reduced personal space compared to White Americans and other cultures. Hugging is not limited to family or close friends. Hands on hips is considered confrontational

6 Time orientation More present oriented. Preventive healthcare is not a priority. Believe in fatalism: ‘What will be will be’, in other words: It’s God’s will.
