3 “The Outsiders” Unit About 2 chapters per week (about 30 pages) Usually due on Tues & Fri of each week Short quiz (5 questions) on the day reading is due. Every 3 quizzes averaged into a minor assessment grade (4 quiz grades in total)

4 Other Assignments Slang flash cards Each time you encounter an unfamiliar slang word/one we don’t still use today, create a flash card for this word Word on the front, definition/explanation on the back Examples from chapter 1: movie house, lone it, digs, hot, reckon, hoods, souped-up, tennis shoes Journal entry After each chapter, write about it for 10 minutes (at least half a page of average-sized writing) Not a summary, but a personal reaction: Did you like it or not and why? Did it remind you of anything? What did you find most memorable and why? Did you find anything confusing? Did you have any favorite quotes/moments? etc.

5 Chapter 1 Character Chart As each new character is introduced, keep track of who this character is and what he is like Important descriptions: physical, personality, age, relationship to other characters, etc. Record page numbers where you find each description
