(one Labs, one “user”) Japan –Setsuya Kawabata (KEK) has been nominated –Not this time – will join next time

5 16-Nov-01D.P.Kelsey, HTASC report5 Network Security Agreed at Nov 2000 HEP-CCC –Reconvene the HTASC Security group (T. Haas as chair) Mandate… –Survey the methods used by HEP labs (today and planned) for the authentication of users, both on and off-site –Report on any problems that these methods cause for off- site access, particularly where off-site users/groups need to access resources at more than one site –Make recommendations as to how the situation could be improved –To report to the Oct 2001 HTASC and Nov 2001 HEP-CCC meeting

6 16-Nov-01D.P.Kelsey, HTASC report6 Security (2) Tobias Haas reported to HTASC #19 –Only plans at this stage –Tobias will organise a meeting soon –Aiming for full report in Spring 2002 Meeting of HEP Security experts in Japan (Dec 01) –Was proposed at CHEP in China Some issues –Need to maintain the HTASC list of security contacts –Mailing list for discussion (needs to be secure) –Will this cover general use of X.509 certificates? –Effect of security on end-users?

7 16-Nov-01D.P.Kelsey, HTASC report7 Video Conferencing Discussed at March 01 HTASC and HEP-CCC Agreed then to create a new sub-group –Chaired by Hans Frese (DESY) –Could not attend HTASC #18 Hans reported to HTASC #19 Presentation: Electronic Support for MeetingsElectronic Support for Meetings HTASC sub-group will start soon –Hans collecting membership nominations (HTASC/CCC) Aim to report in Spring 2002 Hans encouraged participation in the ESnet Remote Conferences Working Group.

8 16-Nov-01D.P.Kelsey, HTASC report8 Video Conferencing (2) Topics for the mandate of new group Does E-HEP need its own MCU? And if so, how should it be run, e.g. reservation scheme? Or can we contribute to the US ESnet service? –ESnet demands at least one US participant right now Need to include Linux in any solution. Linux only support s/w codecs. –ESnet Accord does not allow s/w codecs. Should also cover streaming video. Exchange experiences with firewalls Application sharing is also important

10 16-Nov-01D.P.Kelsey, HTASC report10 Roundtable reports CERN(Juergen Knobloch) –Update on LHC Grid Computing Project –Analysis software strategyAnalysis software strategy Spain(Nica Colino) –OpenAFS experiences (see next slide) Others –FNAL: Strong Authentication complete by end year –Many reported lots of GRID activity and plans for Tier 1 centres etc –No common concerns or big problems to report

11 16-Nov-01D.P.Kelsey, HTASC report11 Experiences with OpenAFS Nica Colino (Spain) 4 Labs, 4 cells with servers (small scale use) –30 users, 4GB disk at CIEMAT (Linux) Last release OpenAFS 1.2.1 (22 Sep 01) More robust and compatible than Arla Installation is difficult and buggy –Easier from binary AFS authentication not integrated with PBS or Condor (LSF OK) – but can work around OpenAFS client for Windows 2000 seems better than the IBM/Transarc client Whole topic of AFS plans – future HTASC agenda item
