3 Fundamental equations of motion
2
Equations of motion v = v 0 + aΔt Explanation: The final velocity of an object is it’s initial velocity plus an acceleration, for how much time the acceleration takes place.
3
Examples?
4
Example Jody Starts her car from a start and starts driving down the road. She accelerates at a rate of 5m/s^2. If she drives for 15 seconds what is her final velocity.
5
Equation 2 x = x 0 + v ̅ Δt Explanation: an objects final position is based on its initial position and it’s velocity throughout the movement.
6
Examples?
7
Example Mr. Gehlsen started driving south he travelled 50 km/hr for three hours. What was Mr. Gehlsen’s final position.
8
Equation 3 x = x 0 + v 0 Δt + ½aΔt 2 Explanation: an objects final position is determined by three things. First, it’s initial position, then it’s initial velocity times the time of the movement. Finally, position depends on the acceleration times time squared.
9
Examples?
10
Example You a washer from the top of the mall which is 15 m tall how long does it take to hit the ground?
