What are they? News articles inform readers about current events using clear and factual language, trying to represent different points of view, so readers can draw their own conclusions.

News Articles might… involve important events and/or people about whom the audience is curious concern a specific audience, such as, an entire city, province or country focus on human interest or drama stories about ordinary people in challenging or devastating circumstances

convey news about catastrophes (i.e. natural disasters, airplane crashes) highlight unusual events that are funny, tragic, or interesting explore uniqueness of something that is “a first” or is the biggest, fastest, tallest, etc.

News Article Structure and Elements give an essentially objective, factual account of who, what, where, when, why and how (W5H) must describe the actual setting, the people as they are, the incident as it occurred and the dialogue as it was spoken
