Christopher Columbus was Italian, but his trip was sponsored by Spain He set out seeking riches and a route to the Indian Ocean Background Columbus set sail in 1492 with three ships: the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria

Christopher Columbus made 4 trips to the “new world”: 1492, 1493, 1498, and 1502 On his first trip, he landed in “Hispaniola” which is now known as Haiti and the Dominican Republic On later trips, he made it to the South American mainland The Route

Christopher Columbus gets credit for discovering the new world Maybe if Christopher Columbus had not been the one to discover the Americas, another explorer would have done so. And if that explorer had been nicer to the Native Americans, maybe the Europeans would have gotten along with the Native Americans better. Maybe today the America’s would be filled with Native American tribes still, and they would trade with Europe. How did Christopher Columbus change the world?
