Mathematics Classroom Procedures Mrs. Jones WELCOME “Go CONFIDENTLY into the DIRECTION of your DREAMS” ~ unknown
2
Teaching Philosophy I believe… All students are different All students can learn Students learn at different rates in a given topic area Students will live up to the realistic expectations you set for them with proper support and encouragement All people deserve respect It is the teacher’s role to make the learning material as approachable, realistic, and meaningful as possible It is ultimately the student’s choice to decide to learn

Entering the Class Enter the classroom and sharpen your pencil(s), get your assigned calculator, and have a seat in your assigned seat. Please have all materials needed for class. You will not be allowed to go to your locker after the tardy bell has rung. Begin working on the bell ringer activity if provided on the board.
4
What if you are tardy? You are expected to be in your seat when the bell rings. Should you be tardy, please lay your pass on my desk and begin working. If you do not have a pass you will be marked tardy in the gradebook.
5
Absences Yes! We did stuff and it was the coolest stuff ever!! Sorry you missed it… Please copy notes from someone in class. See me before or after class for missed handouts/assignments.
6
Sharpening Pencils Please sharpen your pencil(s) before class begins. It happens, your pencil breaks. Sometimes it even happens several times in one class period. Always have extra pencils in case one breaks. DO NOT get up during instruction time to use the pencil sharpener. If you need to sharpen a pencil, you may get up after instruction time and do so. PLEASE CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF IF YOU MAKE A MESS. PENCIL SHAVINGS CAN BE MESSY!!
7
Restroom/Water Once you enter the classroom you are not allowed to leave. You have plenty of time between classes to go to your locker, use the restroom, and get water. Emergencies happen. You may ask permission once class has begun working and instruction time is over, but I reserve the right to refuse anyone at anytime. You will need to have a hall pass filled out.
8
Calculators Calculators are stored in the cubbies to the left of the board. Each cubby and calculator is labeled with a number. Please get the calculator that coincides with the number assigned to you. USE ONLY THE CALCULATOR ASSIGNED TO YOU. If the batteries are dead simply let me know and I will take care of it. During “pack up” please return the calculator to it’s proper cubby space. This ensures it will be available for your next class period.
9
Discipline I do not expect any problems…we are going over the procedures after all. Following procedures means you will not get in trouble, and no one really wants to get in trouble. You deserve a safe classroom and we need to all do our part.
11
What happens if I get in trouble? 1 st Offense: I will give you a verbal warning and remind you to remain on task. 2 nd Offense: You will sign the discipline log which results in a phone call being made to your parents/guardian. Should this bad habit that has developed continue, you will be sent out of the class to the office for disciplinary reasons.
12
If you feel like arguing That’s wonderful! The world needs good lawyers, but there is a time and a place for everything. I do not argue or discuss problems during class time or in front of other students. I am available before or after class to hear your arguments. Believe it or not, a good argument can change an outcome! What goes on between another student and me is our business. I will not discuss other student’s business with another student. Should you have important information concerning a situation, please see me before or after class.
13
Dismissal THE BELL DOES NOT DISMISS YOU! I DO. Everyone must be in their seats in order for me to dismiss the class.
14
Classroom Procedures COPY and KEEP in your binder for reference! Be prepared for class. Sharpen pencils and gather all materials before class begins. You may not leave class without a pass or permission. DO NOT ask to leave during instruction. Stay in your seat. Do not disturb others. FOLLOW SCHOOL RULES AT ALL TIMES!
