STAGES OF SOCIALIZATION
Primary Socialization Secondary Socialization Adult Socialization (boundless.com, 2016)
7
Stage 1: Primary Socialization
Early socialization that takes place in early life (childhood & Adolescent). Example: parent tells child to stop screaming in a crowed restaurant.
8
Stage 1: Primary Way a newborn is molded into a social being.
Facilitated by family, friends, daycare, media.
9
Stage 2: Secondary Socialization
Socialization that takes place throughout a person's life, both as a child and as we encounter new groups that require additional socialization. Example: Teens encourage a friend to take parent’s care without permission.

Stage 2: Secondary Influence of nonfamily.
Runs concurrently with primary socialization. Seek acceptance & approval form peers and teachers. Encourages conformity.
11
Stage 3: Adult Socialization
Happens when we assume adult roles such as wife/husband/employee/etc. Example: New employee learns about office's corporate culture during the first weeks,

Stage 3: Adult Includes college, work, marriage, occupational experiences. Adapts to new roles. Strive to meet expectations. Process continues throughout life.
