www.circortech.com 1 Who (what) is SAM?
2
www.circortech.com 2 WORLD’S FIRST SAM
3
www.circortech.com 3 Embedded “SAM” CIM76 module
4
www.circortech.com 4 Stand Alone “SAM” Where does the SAM need to sit in the network hierarchy?
5
www.circortech.com 5 SAM Specifics Communication module on the CIM76 is pre-certified for the appropriate bus selection CIM76 with Industrial Ethernet (Ethernet IP, Modbus TCP) has the following Java web server FTP server Email server for alarming IS CIRCOR iCAN or CANopen interface 4 channels of analog input and 24VDC excitation for use with std IS shunt-diode barriers and IS certified analog sensors Need C1D2 certified power for 24VDC and C1D1 certified 9V power for IS CANbus Allows for required galvanic isolation between haz location zones and additional isolation from PLC, Data logger, or DCS Manages bus timing arbitration (i.e. CAN repeater functions) between low speed CAN in IS Zone and high speed CAN, Ethernet, Profibus DP Has capabilities to send down alarms, commands, set points down to CAN devices and send alarms and data up to a “bus master” thru mailbox

www.circortech.com 6 SAM Specifics Currently used as CAN Repeater and Bus Gateway Bridge the gap between PLC and Sample system Bridge the gap between C1D1 zone and C1D2 zones CIM76 Module has enough low-power processing capability for much more value added functions Investigating the need for additional RTOS (Real time operating system) Embedded OPC server utilizing CANopen EDS sheets from sample system devices JAVA web server can serve up system as built configuration with dynamic web data from sample system devices, including some basic analog 4-20mA Inventory of all CAN devices Password protection Problem: Very few plant IT infrastructures would allow a link to a field device via ethernet
7
www.circortech.com 7 Points for Discussion Discussion points: Would CIM76 module ever need to communicate to DCS directly? If so, could it connect via Ethernet or serial bus, or discreet digital I/O Where does the CIM76 module sit on the network? Does the CIM76 need to be accompanied by a PLC? If so, how would it communicate with the PLC? Does the device require its own programming interface, GUI, or programming port? Ethernet modules would have their own IP address and also have a web interface that would allow visualization and a possible configuration interface. Inventory of everything on the bus? What happens with error detection, power loss, component change out situations? OPC server?
