Inhalation

Exhalation Exhalation

The breathing system is used by the body to get the oxygen needed for respiration. It is also use to get rid of the waste product of respiration, the gas carbon dioxide. What is breathing? What is breathing? oxygen Breathing in is also known as inhalation. When you inhale you breathe in air, including oxygen, into your lungs. Breathing out is also known as exhalation. When you exhale you breathe out the contents of our lungs and getting rid of the waste gas carbon dioxide.
11
Create a flowchart to describe how the air gets from outside the body into the lungs. Air enters your body through your mouth and nose. Air moves down the trachea (a large tube) Air moves down a bronchus ( a smaller tube) Air moves through a bronchiole ( a tiny tube ) Air moves into an alveolus – an air sac Oxygen then diffuses into the blood.
12
Making lungs! Read the information sheet and make your lung model using the resources provided Prize for 1 st and 2 nd place. Think how you make your model extra special! 12 minutes
13
Alveoli are very good at exchanging gases because… 1)They have a LARGE surface area 2)They have a good blood supply 3)They are moist
14
Gas exchange takes place in the alveoli – oxygen is transferred into the blood and carbon dioxide moves out of the blood. Each alveolus has a thin wall so that gas exchange between the lungs and the blood can take place quickly.
15
Using the key at the top of the page identify which of the statements describe inhalation and exhalation
