2. Good morning!  Today, we are going to review the parts of speech we have discussed.  Then, we are going to complete some awesome winter mad libs!

3. Nouns  Person, place, thing, idea  Singular: only one  Plural: more than one

4. Pronouns  Take the place of a noun  Subject pronoun: I, we, you, he, she, it, they  Object pronoun: me, us, you, him, her, it, them

5. Adjective  Describe a noun or pronoun

6. Verbs  Show an action or state of being  Present tense: happens in the present  I attend English class every day.  I do my homework at night.  Past tense: happened in the past  I attended English class last week.  I did my homework last night.

7. Adverbs  Describes a verb, adjective, or other adverb  Often ends in -ly

8. Coordinating Conjunctions  FAN BOYS  for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so

13. Mad Lib Challenge  The lyrics to “Sleigh Ride” are missing some words.  Fill in the blanks with the original words OR your own creative words.  Then, list the parts of speech for each blank at the bottom.

17. Winter Creative Writing Brainstorming  Get into groups of three or four for our next activity.  Part 1: Scattergories  You will have a few minutes to brainstorm words related to winter.  Each word must start with a different letter of the alphabet.  Your group will get a point if you have a word that no other group has.

18. Scattergories Winners  Each group gets to pick a winter-related word that no other group can use in their creative writing.  We will go in order by the most points.  Write down your prohibited words as each group chooses them.

19. Story Board  As a group or individually, complete the story board.  Each box must include  A 1-2 sentence description  A simple picture  Make sure to follow the parts of the plot structure.  Be creative!
