Warm up 9/9 Name 3 topics we are going to learn this year in biology. Where will grades be posted? What must be included in the heading for all papers? Page 1: About You (No backside) Page 2-3: Syllabus Page front and back Page 4: Syllabus Last Page Page 5: Syllabus Scavenger hunt 1 Notebook

3
Graphing
4
What you need Title of Graph Axis Labels Variables Units Scale Legend (if more than one data set)
5
Things to remember Make it big Use most of the sheet of paper Make scale fit appropriately You are not required to start at zero! Write legibly Use graph paper
6
Vocab x- axis Horizontal axis Independent Variable (What you control) Time is usually an independent variable Y-axis Vertical Axis Dependent Variable (What changes because of x)
7
Interpreting your graph Interpolate Using a line to make an estimate between data points Extrapolate Using a line to make an estimate that goes beyond your data points Line of best fit THIS DOES NOT MEAN CONNECT THE DOTS! Only rarely will a graph need to have the data points connected by a jagged line. Usually, it is best to guess at a (straight) line that goes as near as possible to as many points as possible.
9
Can we interpolate or extrapolate this graph? What was the temperature of the hot water at 25 min? What was the air temperature at 13 min?
10
Can we interpolate or extrapolate this graph? What will the temperature of the hot water be at 50 min? What will the air temperature at 45 min? What will the temperature of the cold water be at 50 min?
11
Make a graph (With best fit line) time (seconds)position (cm) 13.00 23.40 34.80 45.00 55.30
