Becoming a Canadian Citizen If you want to become a Canadian citizen, you must follow several steps: 1.Determine if you are eligible to become a citizen. 2.Apply for citizenship & pay fee ($200.00) 3.Take the citizenship test, if you are between the ages of 18 and 54. 4.Attend a citizenship ceremony, if you are 14 or older

1. Who Can Apply to Be A Citizen? To be eligible to become a Canadian citizen, you must meet the requirements in all of the following areas: Age (+18) Have permanent resident status* Time lived in Canada (3 years) Language abilities (English or French) Criminal history (prohibitions) (none) Knowledge of Canada and of the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship (citizenship test)

2. Apply for citizenship & pay fee

3. Take the citizenship test Written test and possible interview with a citizenship judge. The test evaluates two things: 1. 1. your knowledge of Canada and 2. 2. your language abilities.

4. Citizenship Ceremony The citizenship ceremony is the final step in becoming a Canadian citizen. During the citizenship ceremony, everyone takes the oath of citizenship and then receives citizenship certificate.
