2. Your action plan is the major focus of this workshop.

3. GDF is the Global Drugs Facilityof the STOP TB partnership and its secretarial is housed at WHO Using Your Action Plan  At the end of this workshop it will be ready for immediate implementation in your TB program.  It will help you demonstrate to the MOH and your partner organizations the justification for any changes and the activities you’ve selected.

GDF is the Global Drugs Facilityof the STOP TB partnership and its secretarial is housed at WHO About Your Action Plan  The framework for developing your action plan is based on the drug management cycle.  You will prepare an action plan jointly with TB partners in breakout sessions tomorrow.  Your plan will be specific to your TB drug program in your country.

6. How to Begin  Start with the TB drug management weaknesses in your country that you identified in the practical session today.  Read tonight the background paper in your handouts called:

8. Using Information in the Paper  Find a potential activity that would help you solve the problems you’ve identified.  Group your problems according to the specific category of drug management.

9. Example: Problem in TB Drug Selection Your TB drug selection committee has little experience and needs updating on currently accepted therapies such as fixed-dose combination (FDC) drugs.

10. Provide technical assistance and training in current TB therapy, including FDCs, for the TB drug selection committee. Example: Activity for Addressing the Problem

11. Example: Determine Resources Needed for the Activity YOU WILL NEED: TB drug selection committee members Trainers in medicine and pharmacy Funds for training sessions

12. Example: Indicate Who Is Responsible for the Activity For our example above the responsible person is the NTP director.

13. Then do the following:  Choose the date to start the activity.  Choose the expected date to complete the activity.  Get your country’s TB partner(s) to agree that the activity is feasible and decide who will provide the financial resources needed for the activity.

14. Continue this procedure for all your other TB drug management problems:  Procurement  Distribution  Use  Management support  Policy and legal framework

Remember to start with problems you have already identified.  Choose an activity to improve the problem.  Identify the resources needed (people and funding).  State who is responsible for the activity.  Decide when the activity will start and finish.  Remember to get endorsement from your TB partner that it is feasible.

16. Two Breakout Sessions  Your strategic action plan will take two sessions to complete.  Utilize the assistance of the Stop TB partners available to you in your session.  Stop TB partners may be able to fill some of the gaps in technical assistance and funding for your activities.
