Technology Information Packet (TIP) form: Rev. 9 Jan 2007 Current Technologies Insert #1 caption here Explosives and Contraband Measurement Date of Submission: August 27, 2007 Owner of Technology: QA Solution Inc The Center for Maritime Systems & Security (CfMSS) presents a commercialization opportunity for explosives and contraband measurement technology, developed at Electronic Sensor Technology with the assistance from QA Solutions Inc and National University. The Technology With the increasing number of explosives, security professionals are faced with the daunting task of identifying field employable technologies that can accurately pinpoint the presence of explosive materials in small quantities. The development of a solid state integrating acoustic detector with direct column heating has produced a different type of electronic nose, that can be used to perform quantitative scientific testing of any vapor, odor, smell, or fragrance in seconds. This technology described is able to speciate chemical vapors with precision, accuracy, and 10 second speed. Current Market Problems  Current sensor capabilities are fairly limited;  Manufactured sensors are often designed for use in specific environments and to be selective for only one or two chemicals.  Sensor systems are needed that can detect a large number of illicit or hazardous materials.  Sensor systems must include sample collection and processing, presentation of the chemicals to the sensor, and sensor arrays with molecular recognition. Key Benefits  High measurement speed coupled with electronically programmable virtual sensors enable the system to quickly adapt and to recognize terrorist threats of all kinds.  Repeated high-speed chromatographic measurements enable virtual sensor readings to be updated in near real time.  Arrays of virtual chemical sensors specific to explosives/contrabands can detect part per trillion levels of these compounds with high probability of detection and low probability of false alarm. Development Status  This product commercially manufactured will be displayed  $ 12MM spent over 8 years of development  Data relevant to explosives / contraband detection with the probability of detection equals or greater than 90% with a false alarm probability of 1% will be shown.
