PHASES OF MATTER Can exist in three phases (forms)...
2
1.SOLID Has definite shape Has definite volume Tightly packed particles The particles that make up a solid are arranged in a regular, repeating pattern called a CRYSTAL.
3
AMORPHOUS SOLIDS Solids whose particles are not arranged in a regular, repeating pattern. The particles don’t keep a definite shape-- they flow around one another “Slow-moving liquid”
4
2.LIQUID Has no definite shape (takes the shape of its container) Has definite volume Particles are not held together as tightly as in a solid--they flow around one another
5
VISCOSITY The resistance of a liquid to flow. For example, honey has a higher VISCOSITY than water.
6
3.GAS Has no definite shape Has no definite volume (fills any container) Particles are not arranged in any set pattern The particles move very fast

4.PLASMA Rare on Earth Common in the Universe (stars) High in energy and dangerous to living things
