Oracle Hyperion Financial Data Quality Management (FDM) for Planning Michael van der Merwe Oracle BI & EPM Strategy Team - FDM

3 Agenda FDM Overview & Positioning FDM demonstration Questions

4 Financial Data Quality Differentiated
Financial data quality management is a business issue, and is defined as the practice by which companies can effectively and consistently combine the following four factors: Financial data collection and transformation Repeatable financial processes Internal controls Audit trails Hyperion Financial Data Quality Management helps finance users increase their confidence in the numbers and lowers their cost of compliance by eliminating data integrity risks associated with collecting, mapping, validating, and moving critical financial data from across the enterprise.

5 Insight Performance Action
Points of Failure in Data Load Insight Performance Action Set Goals Plan Monitor Analyze Report Align Data Quality Gap So what are the points of failure that cause problems with data quality? There’s no EASY button when you’re trying to do your consolidation. A lot of things can go wrong. It’s not as simple as flipping a switch. Manual data entry: Who has sticky keys out there and what about those fat fingers? One of the most common problems with Data Quality is the user keying in the data, usually correct, but also with a margin of error, and you cannot afford even one single error! Unbalanced file: Ever reach your consolidation phase only to find out the GL data loaded doesn’t balance? Every time, I hear you say. What if you could check and notify the user about this BEFORE even loading data, so the load is correct, first time round? Submission error: The wrong file/data loaded for the right period will cause even more confusion than keying errors! Duplicate data: Someone works on a GL file/Excel spreadsheet and forgets to delete their ‘working data’, FDM can stop this from loading with a balance check BEFORE load Data load failure: What if your data load fails and all you have to show is a nasty old log file? FDM will display an easy to use web interface with prompts to help the user fix the problem, BEFORE load. Data mapping: Then, what if someone added a new account and it never got mapped or mapped incorrectly? Most of the time spent on mapping is lost while trying to find the problem, and then again to communicate with the user who actually has the answer. With FDM the user loading the data can fix their map errors live and online, while keeping a full audit trail of changes. Incomplete data: Ever complete your data load process only to find out you’ve missed the headcount for your unit? FDM Validation Check reports can prompt the user to add more files to the load if data is missing. Data validation: Even if your mapped accounts exist in your target application, are the dimension intersections correct? Consistency Check: FDM can check data consistency at each step of the data load process, and won’t allow a load to take place if all the requirements aren’t met, EVER! There are many moving parts in the consolidation process. Any ONE of these points over here is NEVER good for business, but if you roll a few of these together, it could REALLY get ugly. What I’m going to show you in just a minute, is how easy it is to mitigate these points of failure and have the transparency and control that you have to have. Manual data entry Unbalanced files Submission error Duplicate data Data load failure Data mapping Incomplete data Data validation Consistency check

6 Customer Challenges Errors in financial data collection
Financial restatements Inconsistent account structure Dozens of source systems No audit trails back to the GL/Source data Weak controls around data collection Lack visibility and transparent processes

7 Oracle EPM System Delivers Confidence with FDM
Audit Trails Integrate Controls questions Store current and historical mapping definitions Store supporting documents Data Collection and Transformation Read and interpret any G/L trial balance file Mapping validation against target system dimensions Data integrity checking against data validation rules FDM Repeatable Processes Single standard and defined solution for any target application Standardized database schema Standard upward data certification process Internal Controls Source financial document archival Prepackaged audit and internal control reports Comprehensive role based security

11 Oracle’s Hyperion Financial Data Quality Management Benefits
Confidence in the numbers – Hyperion FDM provides robust audit trails from source systems to target with robust validation capabilities, providing transparency into the numbers Decrease cost of compliance – Hyperion FDM with its internal control checks over the process ensure adherence to company policies and procedures, enhancing controls while lowering costs Speed and agility – Improve the EPM cycle by days with a Finance owned and maintained application that is quick to implement and supports a simple, easy to follow, repeatable process Increase productivity with an intuitive and easy to use environment Reduce business risk by providing timely and accurate information Lower TCO by simplifying deployments with a single system

12 FDM Demonstration

13 Imports from Any Source
End users “Import” their source financial data (from files, DB’s or Oracle EBS) into FDM eliminating all manual changes ensuring complete accuracy.

14 Smart Dimensional Mapping
Invalid Dimension Map Problems are identified for easy correction. FDM allows for simple or complex cross-dimensional and conditional mapping of data.

15 User Driven Data Validation Rules
End users are given feedback on the quality, accuracy, and completeness of the data that they loaded to Planning, so they are accountable, and can participate in the data integrity management process. Additional adjustment data may be loaded via flat or Excel files.

16 Traceable from “Source to Report”
Audit trail includes the ability to drill back from Planning accounts to source data, whether the data is contained within a file or DB/EBS.

17 Traceable from “Source to Report”
Users can “drill down” into GL detail for a single location and intersection. The Open Source System Link will be visible when sourcing data from EBS. Source data will also be available via a snapshot file.

18 Traceable from “Source to Report”
EBS landing page is shown with same context as drill-back page, the account balance detail is available from the EBS landing page.

19 FDM Reports The Intersection drill-down report allows for a view of all current source to target maps for all dimensions in one view, with values. The report is available in PDF, Word, Excel, HTML and RTF formats by default.

20 Visibility Through Dashboards
The Close and Controls documentation status report provides further visibility into the process. See quickly who has loaded data into Planning & who has reviewed and then submitted their attestation.

21 Supports Sarbanes Oxley Certifications and Assessment Requirements
Sarbanes Oxley control questionnaires allow end users to attest to the validity of financial data. Business process areas are grouped into sections and questions can be tied to activities for monitoring and testing. Built in workflow allows for promotion of responses to the next review level. These questions apply to Section 302 Review Certification, as well as monitoring the 404 control framework.
