Area
13
Lesson:
14
Since all sides of the square are the same you can “square” your number 4 ft To find the area multiply length and width 4 x 4 Or you can square it 4 2
15
7 ft 7 2 = 49 49 ft 2 Be sure to include units of measure!! Since it is area you need to square the units.
16
12 m 4.5 in
17
Now that you can find area- let’s undo it!! Area is 25 ft 2 What is one side???
18
Now that you can find area- let’s undo it!! Area is 25 ft 2 What is one side??? What operation would you use to undo a square- the square root!!!
19
The square root of a number is a value that, when multiplied by itself, gives the number. Example: 4 × 4 = 16, so a square root of 16 is 4. The symbol is √ Another example: √36 = 6 (because 6 x 6 = 36)
21
Now that you can find area- let’s undo it!! Area is 25 ft 2 What is one side??? √25 = 5 Therefore one side is 5 ft.
22
Area = 81 sq in Area = 36 sq m
23
Area = 81 sq in Now that you found the side Length is 9 in. What is the perimeter???
24
Area = 81 sq in Now that you found the side Length is 9 in. What is the perimeter??? 9 x 4 = 36 in
25
Try this one Step 1: find the side length Step 2: find the perimeter
27
Lesson: Triangles
34
Trapezoids
44
Exit Ticket Discuss with your partner Why does the triangle formula have a ½ in it? What is its purpose?
