1. Discovering Poetry The poet is not unlike the painter, except the poet creates images with words! Students will identify, read and write poetry

5. Students Activity Students will explore how words in the poem describes things. What pictures did you see in your mind from the words in the poem? Students will draw some of his or her images using markers or crayons on a sheet of paper. Students will write a sentence about their pictures.

6. Share Putting together their drawing and writing students will make a poem book to be share in the classroom. The poem’s title will go on another piece of paper. Expand-Suggest to students that they can write longer or shorter poems about their favorite animals, favorite foods, favorite things to do on a rainy day. Encourage students to be creative and silly.
