The Fast Break Model Answer
2
The Question Describe in detail a structure, strategy or composition that you have been involved in developing? (5 Marks) AT LEAST ONE PAGE OF A4
3
First we need to tell them the activity and strategy and why we use it…… All answers at Higher must be written in ESSAY FORM!!!!!!!!!!! Fast Break - Basketball
4
In basketball my team uses the fast break as an attacking strategy. This is very effective against a slow forming zone defence The first bit of the answer is everything that happens to get the ball into the hands of the point guard
5
First we get possession of the ball We need to add how, who and why to every bit we write about where possible
6
First we get possession of the ball. This usually happens with a interception of a pass or a rebound. Both our forwards, Ross and Ruari, are tall and strong and effective at getting rebounds.
7
What happens next? The forward protects the ball then pivots quickly to the open side The point guard will move quickly out to the side of the court. The outlet pass should always be made to same side as the rebound.
8
The outlet pass should always be made to same side as the rebound as this keeps the ball away from the traffic in the key and makes an interception less likely. The point guard shouts “ball” as soon as he gets to the side of the court and is ready to get the pass.
9
The forward then plays a fast outlet pass to the point guard.
10
Now we are on the next stage This stage talks about everything that happens right up until the Point Guard reaches the top of the key.
11
Transition The Point Guard then dribbles HARD AND FAST down the centre of the court. It is important to maintain the speed to ensure that the defenders do not have time to get back. By dribbling down the centre the Point Guard gives himself options on the left and right
12
Two other players will fill the two other wide lanes. This is usually Chris and Colin as they are the fastest players in the team. This gives width in attack and will stretch any defenders that have got back to defend giving the ball carrier options.
13
The point guard will drive to the top of the key where he will have a number of options
14
Now the final bit… If there are no defenders back then the point guard will continue to dribble and perform a lay-up He will lay-up if possible as this is the a high percentage scoring opportunity
15
However, usually at least one defender will be back in the key. The point guard will commit the defender before passing to a team-mate in the wide channels. Again the ball carrier will try to perform a lay up with the other player in the wide channel following in to rebound.
16
The point guard will stay at the top of the key to give depth. If too many defenders are back defending then the point guard holds onto possession of the ball to allow everyone to join the attack.
17
As soon as we lose possession we sprint back quickly to the zone to ensure that the opposition cant use a fast break strategy against us.
18
How else might they ask? Describe in detail YOUR ROLE in a structure, strategy or composition that you have been involved in developing? Describe 2 weakness/strengths in a structure, strategy or composition that you have been involved in developing
