Widow and Orphan A widow is the last line of a paragraph left by itself at the top of a page An orphan is the first line of a paragraph left by itself at the bottom of a page.

Business Report Side Headings To communicate information to assist in business decision making process Follows a specific set of rules for formatting Side headings break a report into specific sections Paragraph Headings (or run-in Headings) are minor subdivisions of a report Report extends to another page

Formatting Requirements Use default side and bottom margins Double-space the entire report. Change line spacing before you begin the report Leave approximately 2-inch TM on page 1; a 1 inch TM on continuing pages (press enter 3 times) Turn on widow/orphan protection. Do not number the first page. However, number all continuing pages at the top right

Formatting Key Side Headings – At the left margin in all caps and bold. – With a double space before and after Paragraph Headings – Indented 0.5 inch – Initial caps and bold – Followed by a period – Followed by one space Complete all formatting requirements before you begin to key.
