Montreal is a metropolitan city. When so many people live in a concentrated area, there are bound to be some major problems.

What types of public transportation are available to people living in and around Montreal? DID YOU KNOW? 1 bus carries as many passengers as 50 cars! 1 metro moves as many people as 15 buses or 750 cars!

Look at the charts and map on p. 38 and 39 of your textbook What are some of the problems associated with housing in Montreal?

What options to people have when choosing a place to live in Montreal? DID YOU KNOW? Over 13, 500 people in 2004 did not find housing in Montreal that was within their budget Low-income housing, the suburbs or cheaper regions of the island.

Look at the charts on p. 46 and 47 of your textbook How much and what types of waste are produced by Montrealers? Does it shock you how much waste is produced?

What are some things we can do to reduce waste in Montreal?

Which issue do you think is the easiest to fix and why? Which one do you think is the most difficult to fix and why? Is the city of Montreal doing enough to help fix the issues? Do other metropolitan cities face the same issues?

DID YOU KNOW? The Montreal metro system is the busiest in Canada Over 1 million people use the metro daily (this is second in the world only to New York) Since its opening, the metro has served over 7 billion passengers (which is almost the population of the entire world!)

How many stations can you transfer from? How would you get from Bonaventure metro station to the Olympic Stadium at Pie IX station? How would you get from the south shore to the island of Laval? (Montmorency station) If you lived at Angrignon station, how would you get to the bell center at Lucien L’allier?
