Who was there? Holy Roman Empire Dutch Republic England Spain Duchy of Savoy Sweden France

Where was it fought? The battles of the Nine Years War where predominately fought on mainland Europe but there where theatres in Ireland and even north American, making it almost a world war. The war consisted mainly of sieges because Louis XIV King of France heavily outnumbered his opponents in the field. The French using had to assault many Alliance strongholds so the sought battle on the open field Brought together two of the Dutchman Menno, baron van Coehoorn and the French Seigneur de Vauban

Why? The end of the Franco- Dutch War brought an end to formal hostilities, but it did not bring an end to significant informal military conflict. The French chambers of reunion where set in place so France could seize additional territory, annoying other countries. Persicution of the Huguenots in Dutch made them flee, the flight helped destroy the pro-French group in the Dutch Republic

When? Initial fighting took place in continental Europe and the British isles 1688. Conflicted continued until 1697 when The Treaty of Turin started a wave of peace which ended the war.

The Nine Years War ended in France’s brutal defeat. This is said to be because the French had very little financial resources in comparison to the United Provinces or Britain. The Treaty of Ryswick was signed on the 20 th of September 1697. It was named after the town of Ryswick in the Dutch Republic. This treaty saw the end of the Nine Years War. n the end all sides opted for peace due to the significant financial drain it cost them

France lost the War. The Treaty of Ryswick was what ended it. The Swedes were the mediators for the signing of the treaty. King Louis returned to Luxembourg and gained back other territory. He was allowed to keep all of Alsace and Strasbourg. Louis gave up all his territories on the right bak of Rhine and set to demolish the French fortresses of Mont Royal, La Pile and Fort Louis. Louis took it upon himself to evacuate Catalonia and give Luxembourg, Mons Chimnay, Courtrai, Ath and Charleroi back to King Charles II.
