1 “Penn State Football Legend Joe Paterno Dies At 85”

2 Joe Paterno, the man synonymous with Penn State football, died Sunday after developing complications from lung cancer. He was 85. He coached at Penn State for 61 years, though his long tenure ended amid a child sexual abuse scandal. The man Penn Staters fondly called "JoePa" seemed to cement his legacy last Oct. 29, when he won his 409th game, a Division I record. The longtime Penn State head coach was diagnosed with what his family had called a treatable form of lung cancer shortly after the university's Board of Trustees voted to fire him. "It is with great sadness that we announce that Joe Paterno passed away earlier today," the family statement said. "His loss leaves a void in our lives that will never be filled.” Paterno died at 9:25 a.m. Sunday, surrounded by his family at State College's Mount Nittany Medical Center.

3 Gail Glaenzer still can't believe that her fiance unknowingly shot a nail into his skull, let alone that he posted a picture of the X-ray on Facebook during his ambulance ride between hospitals for surgery. But she was joking about the circumstances Friday, a day after doctors successfully removed the 3.25-inch nail from Dante Autullo's brain. "He feels good. He moved all his limbs, he's talking normal, he remembers everything," said Glaenzer, 33. "It's amazing, a miracle.” Autullo was in his workshop using the nail gun Tuesday when it recoiled near his head. He felt what he thought was the point of the gun hit his head. But what really happened was that when the gun came in contact with his head, the sensor recognized a flat surface and fired. A new school in Utah looking for a team name and mascot won't be getting the "cougar," in part because of parents' complaints about the word's "negative double entendre.” Corner Canyon High School polled students in Draper on what the team name should be for the school's opening in 2013, and 23 percent voted for Cougars. Other potential mascots included Diamondbacks, Raptors, and Falcons. The Board then voted unanimously to select the Chargers as the mascot, noting no other high school in the state had it as one.
